Pre-Season Friendly vs Old Cots by Harvo, 30th Jul 2014

Greyhounds first pre-season friendly of 2014/15 ends in narrow defeat.

Sporting Greyhounds started their pre-season friendlies with a 2-1 defeat to Old Cothamians FC. A large squad was taken for the game at St Bede’s College, with 19 players involved. Playing on a rather sizeable 3G pitch proved to be a good fitness exercise as well as also giving us the opportunity to play some decent football, something which won’t come quite as easily when the season starts on the Downs!

After conceding an early goal to a well taken strike from the edge of the area, we found our footing in the game and started to play some decent stuff, creating a couple of openings. Jamie (beefcake) Moore scored a decent equaliser, to make the score 1-1 at HT. Old Cots dominated possession in the second half, albeit without often threatening our goal, but did bag a deserved winning goal midway through the half. Plenty of positives to take from the game into the next friendly, including some bright appearances from a number of debutants.
