Friendly: Firsts v Portland Old Boys by Harvo, 7th Aug 2014

First team go down to another narrow 2-1 defeat and Harvo proves he’s no keeper…

The First team continued their pre-season friendly schedule against fellow Downs League Div 1 opponents Portland Old Boys. It was another creditable display that really should have earned victory, but for some slightly dubious goalkeeping (from Harvo) and a lapse in concentration in the final minute.

The Hounds were on top in the first half as Portland struggled to cope with our 3 man midfield and were unfortunate not to take the lead when a well-struck effort from JJ hit the post. Another couple of decent chances went begging, while at the other end, Craig ensured we went in at half time all square with two fine saves.

Then Harvo went in goal……

We continued where we left off in the first half with some more fine football and should have taken the lead when Si somehow contrived to hit the post with most of the goal gaping! He made amends shortly after with an excellent strike from outside the area to give us a deserved lead. We maintained the lead until only 10 minutes of the game remained, when a rush of blood from Harvo Lloris (with the speed of Brad Friedel) led him to come rushing out for a ball he was never going to reach and subsequently getting lobbed. After we missed a great chance to re-take the lead, Portland scored a winning goal in the final minute when a well delivered free kick was headed in at the back post.

All in all, it was another decent performance with plenty of positives to take into the new season.
